The Armor of God
Did you know that as Christians, we are in a spiritual battle? It's true! And in order to stand against the schemes of the devil, we need to be fully equipped with the armor of God.
In Ephesians 6:10-11, we are instructed to "be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil." Just as a Roman soldier couldn't do battle with a piece of armor missing, neither can a believer adequately stand against the schemes of the devil.
So what is this armor of God that we are supposed to put on? The armor of God is comprised of six pieces: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit.
Each piece is essential for protecting us in our spiritual battle. The belt of truth protects our hearts from being deceived. The breastplate of righteousness protects us from Satan's attacks on our character. The gospel of peace gives us confidence as we go into battle. The shield of faith protects us from Satan's lies. The helmet of salvation protects us from discouragement. And finally, the sword of the Spirit—which is the Word of God—is our offensive weapon against Satan.
So remember, next time you are feeling under attack by Satan, put on your armor! You are more than equipped to handle whatever he throws your way.
